PINCC trained 9 health workers at Kisoro Hospital, Uganda, near the Volcanoes National Park where the Mountain Gorillas live, certifying them in 2008, and donating the needed equipment. This hospital serves a large area of small villages, where health care access is difficult. The Medical Director, Dr. Michael Baganizi, committed his staff to serving a wide area by taking the trained team out to these village areas to do cervical screening. This is a letter recently received from Dr. Baganizi about his excellent program's success.
Dear Kay,
Oh how good to hear from you. it indeed has been a long time since we last got in touch.
we have been well and the clinic is going strong. i would indeed be happy to fill out the form for evaluation. please do send it
The clinic has up to now seen over 6,000 women, and we now have over 50 women on our palliative care list with cancer. we could plan to get a more detailed report.
The clinic has grown in operation, as now we carry out a wide package for the women at our outreaches, including HIV testing, Family planning, Postnatal care, Domestic violence counselling. and we shall start to include Antenatal care with the full package of tests starting August.
We have also just concluded a training of 35 new staff interested in ca cx screening. we did the theory, and shall start with the practicals at different outreaches. 3 have been scheduled tomorrow, and 2 next week. we hope we could add another about 20 staff on our team
Shall see if I am in Kampala about the time you will be in Uganda.
The list you have is correct except Dr. John who left the district soon after the training. Marie has also not been able to continue with us, probably because of work in her department. We also trained some other staffs earlier. I will ask Twine to send you the full list (unfortunately, most of them are not internet literate but we could pass them message by word of mouth, and they could go to the internet cafe and fill the forms out and send to your email address)
Thank you alot for the mail, and the work. we remember you and the team fondly
Best regards
Michael Baganizi, MD
