PINCC Walk for Women of Africa a Big Success!

Friday, August 20, 2010 - 2:52pm

The Second Annual PINCC Walk for Women of Africa was a huge success! Despite the cold and windy marine-layer day, 90 walkers arrived, from babies in strollers to active seniors. We had two walker dogs in tee shirts, and several more serving as greeters. The Team Spirit award first place went to the Walking In Sunshine Team from Redwood City, with their colorful lettered visors. They also won the Highest $$ Raised. Biggest Team was Trestle Glen Team, inching past Lisa Friedman's Team by 2 members. Lisa's Team got second place in Team Spirit for their t-shirted canines, and won most miles walked, doing 2 laps. Wells Turner took the individual Most Miles Walked for the second year; his new nickname is LD (long distance)! He warmed up the day before with a 14-mile stroll. The individual Most $$ Raised is still pending, as contributions are still arriving. Individual Team Spirit went to Bridget of the Trestle Glen Team, who got the whole neighborhood involved.

On the walkers' return, prizes were awarded to both teams and individual winners: Arizmendi pizzas, chilled bottles of bubbly (cider, that is), and tickets generou sly donated by La Pena and Freight and Salvage. Pink balloons went to the children, and oranges and power bars to everyone!

The most wonderful part of the Walk was the $17,100 raised to take our team to Africa! They packed up and headed off to Kenya on Aug. 19. It was such a pleasure to share the Walk with this spirited and generous group of people. We also want to thank our 16 great volunteers, who put in time both before and during the event to make it such a huge success.

Our volunteer photographer, Meggie Raeder, took a great collage of photos of everyone. Check this link for a slideshow of these beautiful, professional shots: http://www.pbase.com/mraeder/pincc_walkathon2010

We hope to see everyone and their friends back next year!
